The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library (MFRL) presents The MFRL Mobile Library Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with Author & Illustrator Cece Bell on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Christiansburg Library.
Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library (MFRL) has a new mobile library! Join the library and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome the newest library location along with special guest author and illustrator Cece Bell whose creation Sock Monkey is featured on the mobile library.
Sock Monkey is the star of a series of children’s books by Montgomery County author and artist Cece Bell and has been featured on MFRL’s children’s library card for many years. Ms. Bell has won the Eisner Award and a Newbery Medal Honor for her book El Deafo. We are grateful to Cece Bell and Candlewick Press for permission to use the Sock Monkey art on our mobile library.
This Mercedes Sprinter Van continues the legacy of MFRL’s previous bookmobiles and traveling libraries, and will provide a platform to bring our library services out to the community. The Mobile Library will hit the road beginning Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
For the 2021 Summer Season, the Mobile Library will visit 24 locations throughout Montgomery and Floyd Counties, on a three-week cycle. At each stop MFRL will provide books and other material for check out, provide Wi-Fi access, provide printing from patrons’ mobile devices and assist visitors with their questions. We will demonstrate how to access the eBook and eAudio collections, and help people request items that are on the branch shelves.
The Mobile Library was purchased by Montgomery County, with funding from the 2020 federal CARES Act. Technology on the Mobile Library was enhanced by the generous support of the Floyd Library Endowment. Customization of the van for library use was completed by Mathews Specialty Vehicles of Greensboro, NC.
