Description:
The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley presents musician Georgia Randall performing in The Listening Room on Friday, September 3, 2021 in the Edna B. Love Gallery.
Georgia Randall is an accomplished and award-winning musician, singer / songwriter with four self-released albums. She has recently returned to her home of Virginia and continues to write and perform her music with her unique blend of soul, blues, and rock.
Georgia Randall’s musical roots are in gospel and blues, which she threads through an experience garnered from performing with rock-and-roll and Motown show bands. We dare you to prevent your toes from tapping and falling in love with the performance of this talented local artist.
Georgia was born in Norfolk, Virginia. She began singing Gospel in the church at a young age. She can barely remember the memories her grandmother shared of her being a featured vocalist in the church before even beginning elementary school. In addition to Gospel music, her early influences were in Soul and Blues, listening to the likes of Etta James, Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith, and Billie Holiday.
By the age of 15 Georgia had begun her professional career as a front singer and embraced the music of Motown, Rock & Roll, and the San Francisco sound, along with her continued love of the Blues. By age 17, Georgia left her Virginia home and hit the road fronting several rock & roll and show bands. Many years later she took a few guitar lessons so she could begin a solo career.
Within three years of mostly teaching herself to play guitar she was booked weekly in Florida as a solo act. At the suggestion of a friend, Georgia began to write her own music. Her voice has been compared to Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, and Melissa Etheridge, but make no mistake, Georgia’s style is all her own.
