The Virginia Center for Civil War Studies presents the keynote lecture from Dr. Jaime Martinez of the University of North Carolina – Pembroke titled “Negotiating Slavery’s ‘Volunteer State’ to Avoid Confederate Military Labor” on Friday, April 22, 2022 in the Solitude Room located within The Inn at Virginia Tech.

This is a keynote lecture at the conference "The Great Strike: Slavery During the American Civil War," sponsored by the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech.

Most conference sessions are only open to presenters and registered participants, but the two keynote lectures are free and open to the public.
