Filipino American Student Association at Virginia Tech presents their 34th Annual Culture Show titled "Hatinggabi" on Sunday, April 24, 2022 inside Burruss Auditorium on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Bring all your friends and family for an insightful afternoon experiencing Filipino Culture! Starting out as a small gathering of friends, the Culture Show has developed into a massive year-ending production celebrating Filipino culture. This year, our production discusses themes of love, friendship, and conflict all in the setting of the late 70s Philippines. Our aim is to showcase the lives of the generation of Filipinos who grew up under Martial Law.
This year's show is called, Hatinggabi, meaning midnight. The name is a call to the curfew placed in the Philippines in the 1970s. Many feared the curfew hours because it was a time when the police could freely arrest, detained, and even murder without any regard for the law.
In addition to the story, we have various other events taking place! We have dances that showcase modern and traditional dances popular in the Philippines. A fashion show wherein our members wear cultural and contemporary Filipino clothing. A musical number playing the sounds of Manila during the late 70s. Finally, come see the awarding of our Rhoynll-Syballos scholarship.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
Doors open at 12:30 PM and the performance begins at 1:00 PM.
