Radford University Planetarium presents a two-day James Webb Space Telescope Community Event on Friday, June 10, 2022 and Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Join us for a day of science-themed activities at the Radford University Planetarium and the entire Main Street lobby area of the Center for the Sciences. It’s all about science things and the activities will be for all ages with some targeted towards younger visitors.

Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Francisco Muller Sanchez, Physics & Astronomy faculty member at the University of Memphis and a research scientist with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) at 2:00 PM on both days. Dr. Muller Sanchez will talk about his research, and the amazing science that the JWST will reveal.

Throughout the day there will be multiple planetarium shows, the Museum of the Earth Sciences will be open, and there will be multiple STEM activities and demonstrations from science faculty and students from Radford University and Virginia Tech including telescopes with solar filters pointed at the sun (weather permitting), liquid N2 ice cream, glass blowing demo, chemistry of space, reliable communication in space and more!

We will be joined by the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society, Radford University's McConnell Library, the Radford Public Library, and students and faculty from Christiansburg High School and Radford High School.

There will also be a free painting workshop starting at 10:00 AM on both days led by Wine & Design. Admission is free and everyone is invited!
