The Floyd Center for the Arts presents "Tom Nakashima: Selected Works" Exhibit and "Plein Air Preview" Opening Reception on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in the Hayloft Gallery at the Floyd Center for the Arts.

The Floyd Center for the Arts is honored to display these works by our Distinguished Artist of the Year, Tom Nakashima! This exhibition will be on display June 11 - August 6, 2022.

Nakashima has been exhibiting his works of art publicly since the 1970s. Born in Seattle, he studied art as an undergraduate at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He later went on to achieve masters degrees in fine art from University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Nakashima's first solo exhibition was in 1971 at Merton Boyd Gallery in Columbus, Ohio. Since then, he has exhibited numerous times nationally, including at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in New York City, NY. Tom Nakashima's work has been shown globally in Malaysia, Vietnam, Eastern Europe, Spain, Italy, Philippines, and more.

His work has earned him a multitude of awards throughout his career. Notably, The Joan Mitchell Foundation Award for Painters & Sculptors, The Mayor Award for Excellence (DC), and the Virginia Art Commissions Individual Arts Fellowship. An artist voted poll, the KOAN poll, rated him as DC's #1 printmaker and #2 painter.

Also opening on Saturday, June 11th at 5:00 pm will be our Plein Air Preview Exhibition in the Breezeway.

Come check out our Breezeway Gallery which will be filled with one example piece from each artist that was juried into our upcoming Plein Air Biennial. This gives everyone the opportunity to get familiar with these talented artists and their styles, as well as purchase patron tickets for the biennial that include several events with the artists!

Additionally, beginning June 11th, "Seasons: From Sea to Summit" a Multimedia Exhibition by Rina Lucas, will be on display in the Falcon Gallery. The Opening Reception for this exhibition will be Saturday, June 18, at approximately 7:30 pm, immediately following the concert by Rina Lucas of the same name.
