The YMCA at Virginia Tech presents the Y Food Truck Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Join the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate our new Food Truck with a special Ribbon Cutting! Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres & beverages, learn more about the YMCA's Food Insecurity Program and see the winning food truck wrap design.

The YMCA at Virginia Tech received a grant from Y-USA, No Kid Hungry and a few other donors to purchase a food truck, which will become our mobile kitchen. We were also proud to become the region’s USDA sponsor. Both of these developments are helping us to provide youth from low-income families with access to shelf stable, and soon, fresh, hot meals.

We have been consistently distributing shelf stable meals five days a week to more than 300 children for nearly three years, supplemented by fresh bread donated by local bakers and eggs and occasional produce from the NRV Glean Team. With the exciting addition of our new Food Truck, our goal is to start providing daily fresh cooked meals following USDA and YUSA healthy food guidelines directly to children in their community.

In addition, we are currently soliciting public input on the design of the Food Truck Wrap. View the designs and vote at: https://vtymca.org/its-a-wrap/. We will announce the winning design during the Ribbon Cutting!

As part of our #GiveLocalNRV fundraising for the YMCA at VT this year we are hoping to raise $26,000 to launch our new Food Truck which will bring fresh cooked healthy meals directly to the children where they live.

Admission is free and donations are greatly appreciated.
