Description:
The 2022 Summer Arts Festival concludes their Thursday Night Indoor Concerts with Mozart Requiem Community Sing at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

Mozart’s Requiem Mass was one of the composer’s final compositions. Left incomplete, it was finished by family friend Edward Süssmayr. Mozart’s wife Constanze told stories of a commission received from a masked stranger, and that the feverish Mozart began to believe that he was writing this requiem for his own funeral. Those stories became the basis for the Oscar-winning film Amadeus.

Conducted by assistant conductor of the Blacksburg Master Chorale Larry Wyatt, the Requiem will feature four soloists and a group of community members singing the important choral parts.

There will be seven rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday nights in July beginning on July 6th. If you can read music and would like to join the community sing, visit: http://nextthreedays.com/FeaturedEventDetails.cfm?E=649575.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Summer Arts Festival is presented through the joint efforts of Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts and the Town of Blacksburg. The Summer Arts Festival includes Friday night concerts on Henderson Lawn, classic films in the historic Lyric Theatre, an art exhibit in the Perspective Gallery in the Squires Student Center, and numerous special events such as Summer Solstice Fest, the Fourth of July celebration, and Steppin' Out street festival. New this year will be a series of Thursday night concerts at the Presbyterian Church including a performance of Mozart's Requiem, a production of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder in Theatre 101 featuring actors from Virginia Tech and the community, and children's activities in the new campus Living Learning Community building.

All events of the Summer Arts Festival are free and open to the public.
