The 2022 Mary Draper Ingles Festival commemorating the capture, escape and grueling return journey of one of Virginia’s most famous colonial heroines will take place July 29-31, 2022 in the City of Radford and surrounding communities.

Glencoe Mansion is partnering with Long Way Brewing, historic Ingles Farm, the Radford Info & Welcome Center, the Radford Chamber of Commerce and the Wilderness Road Museum in Dublin to bring back the iconic celebration that commemorates the capture of the frontierswoman, her escape and return to the New River Valley during the French and Indian War.

The Mary Draper Ingles Festival commemorates the capture, escape and grueling return journey of one of Virginia’s most famous colonial heroines takes place annually throughout the City of Radford, VA and the surrounding communities.

Mary Draper Ingles (1732 - 1815), was an American pioneer and early settler of western Virginia. In the summer of 1755, she and her two young sons were among several captives taken by Shawnee after the Draper's Meadow Massacre during the French and Indian War. They were taken to Lower Shawneetown at the Ohio and Scioto rivers. Ingles escaped with another woman after two and a half months, making a trek of 500 to 600 miles crossing numerous rivers and creeks, and over the Appalachian Mountains to return home to Radford, VA.

The story of Mary’s undeniable determination continues to capture interest more than 260 years later, resulting in numerous books, including "Follow the River", a “New York Times” bestseller, and several outdoor dramas and movies.
