Description:
The Virginia Tech Department of Entomology presents the 13th Annual Hokie BugFest inside the Squires Student Center on the campus of Virginia Tech on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

Hokie BugFest celebrates the fun and exciting science of entomology, and the Virginia Tech tradition of learning and discovery, through outreach and engagement.

This year’s event boasts over 30 exhibitors & booths including Virginia Tech labs, local museums, community groups as well as numerous live arthropods, live reptiles, birds & mammals, hands-on science activities, earn your Junior Entomologist Certificate and the Dan Capps Insect Collection.

The Dan Capps Insect Collection is one of the largest private insect collection in the country, featuring hundreds of pinned specimens from across the globe including walking sticks that measure over two feet; goliath, Hercules, and other massive beetles; vibrant butterflies and moths; and more. Several new frames of specimens will be premiered at the event.

View and touch arthropods from the Hokie BugZoo such as tarantulas, scorpions that glow, blue death feigning beetles, giant hissing cockroaches, whip spiders, vinegaroons, and more.

One of Virginia Tech’s largest science literacy events, Hokie BugFest will leave you bug-crazed and bug-amazed!

Admission and parking are free.

A special pre-opening event (S.A.F.E. Hour) is again being hosted for adults and children with mobility and other special needs from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Permits are not needed to park on campus during the weekend. Recommended event parking includes the following area: Squires Lot, Architecture Annex, Alumni Mall, Drillfield. Do not park in any spots marked for service vehicles and be sure to check times on metered spots to avoid tickets.
