Description:
The Blacksburg Library presents a Friends of the Library Author Talk with Kristina Gorcheva-Newberry on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Join us for a talk with Kristina Gorcheva-Newberry, author of "The Orchard", which New York Post dubbed "One of the best books of the year".
Raised in Soviet Russia, Kristina Gorcheva-Newberry moved to the U.S. in 1995, after having witnessed perestroika and the fall of the Iron Curtain. "The Orchard", set in the same period, juxtaposes the concerns and dreams of a teenage girl in the USSR with her memories and fears as a 40-year-old woman living in America. The author explores the loss of childhood friends and home country, which had changed over two decades into something very different yet just as dangerous and incomprehensible.
Autographed books available for purchase courtesy of Blacksburg Books.
