The Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE) presents the Halloween Hokie Hike hiking both Bald Knob and War Spur on Sunday, October 29, 2023 meeting at Mountain Lake Outfitters parking lot at Mountain Lake Lodge.
Join Geography Instructor Stewart Scales ‘09, ‘11 for two of the most popular hikes in the area, Bald Knob and War Spur at Mountain Lake Conservancy meeting by 10:00 AM.
Hikers will learn about the history of Mountain Lake and local geology, landforms, and flora as they take in beautiful views of West Virginia and the New River Valley, as well as Virginia’s largest distribution of American Chestnuts. Hikers will travel about four miles total at the two locations including a steep ascent of 0.4 miles.

The hike is open to the public.
The hike will take place from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM with time built in for hikers to enjoy their own packed lunches.
Meet by 10 a.m. at the parking lot for Mountain Lake Outfitters (intersection of Mountain Lake Road and Doe Creek Road).
Participants are responsible for their own driving and parking arrangements.
Mountain Lake Lodge is located at 115 Hotel Circle in Pembroke, VA.
