Rising Silo Farm Brewery presents Ash Devine with Mike Gangloff and Kaily Schenker in concert on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Three New River Valley musicians who've taken traditional Appalachian sounds to different corners of the sonic map gather for an evening of bringing it all back home. Singer, guitarist and ukelele player Ash Devine joins fiddler Mike Gangloff and cellist and harmonium player Kaily Schenker for three hours of so of changing musical lineups and steady heartfelt sound.

Ash Devine is an accomplished songwriter, ukulele and guitar player, performance artist, educator, and community-based arts facilitator whose work is influenced by her upbringing in the Blue Ridge mountains, and by her international travels to perform in health care facilities with Patch Adams M.D. Devine is known as a true ‘folk troubadour’ because she writes, collects, and performs cross genre music based on numerous folk traditions including original Americana & indie-folk-rock, traditional Appalachian old time, contemporary folk, country blues, historic bluegrass, folk revival, classic rock, and international folk music. Ash has self produced two albums of original music, and is working on two more, including a traditional Appalachian and folk legacy compilation.

Born and raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, Ash lived for over 17 years in the Western North Carolina region where she developed her studies of Appalachian music traditions.

Fiddler Mike Gangloff (Ironto) plays free Appalachian music that weaves together improvisation, melodic composition, and traditional tunes learned from older players in a region around his home in Southwest Virginia. He often performs solo on hardanger-style and octave fiddles, as well as in duos, including this year with UK guitarist C Joynes, with Prices Fork cellist Kaily Schenker, and with fellow Black Twig Pickers guitarist and banjoist Isak Howell. Besides the Black Twigs, Mike is a founding member of Pelt and Eight Point Star.

Kaily Schenker is a cellist who studied cello at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is now based in the New River Valley.
