The Wilderness Road Regional Museum presents an Archives 101 Workshop on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Join us for an informative workshop on the basic principles of archives. The workshop will be taught by professional archivist VivianLea Solek.

VivianLea, the instructor for the workshop has local roots and an outstanding background in archive work. She is a seventh generation Virginian who graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg, VA, with a double major in Art History and American Studies. While there she spent her junior year at the University of Reading, England, was a George C. Marshall Scholar at the Marshall Library in Lexington, VA, and interned at the Smithsonian Institution, the Maier Museum of Art, and the Lynchburg Museum System. She holds a master’s degree in American Studies from George Washington University, Washington, DC and a master’s in library and information science from Simmons University, Boston, MA.

She has been active in museums in North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, and Connecticut and has worked at The Octagon Museum (Washington, DC), The Greensboro (NC) Historical Museum, The Museum of American Frontier Culture (Staunton, VA), The Old Barracks Museum (Trenton, NJ), and several community historical societies and public libraries in Connecticut. Currently, she is the archivist for the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archives located in New Haven, Connecticut. Throughout her career she has been very active in professional organizations such as the North Carolina Museums Council, the Virginia Association of Museums, and the American Association of Museums, for whom she serves as a Peer Reviewer in the Museum Assessment
Program.

The cost is $25.00 per person and lunch is included.
