Description:
The Pulaski County Library presents the historic program "Oral Folk Culture of Southwest Virginia" on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
Join Ricky Cox to learn about the Oral Folk traditions of the area. Oral folklore is the most widely collected and studied of the three major types of folklore: oral, customary, and material. In addition to familiar narrative genres like myths, legends, and folktales, oral folklore encompasses dialect, folk names, proverbs, riddles, jokes, and songs.
This presentation will include examples of all the above and conclude with a few ballads and lyrical folk songs from the Appalachian Region.
Ricky Cox is retired from the Appalachian Regional and Rural Studies Center at Radford University
The Pulaski County Library is located at 60 West Third Street in Pulaski, VA.
