The Marine Corps League Detachment #1190 presents the May Buddy Check 22 Social Event on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Macado's in Radford, VA.
Please join us at our monthly Buddy Check 22 social event for veteran suicide prevention. Although our cause is very serious, we have a lot of fun and banter. This is a time for veterans to come together and share the good cheer and camaraderie we had when we served in uniform.
Everyone is invited! We welcome veterans from all branches of service along with family, friends, and anyone who would like to help support the cause of preventing veteran suicides.
We meet on the 22nd of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM at Macado's in Radford, VA. When the weather is warm, we meet out on the patio. When it's chilly, we meet inside in the back left corner. Macado's generously offers a 50% discount on all food.
A 2013 study by the Department of Veteran Affairs showed that 22 veterans take their own lives every day. Although that number has fluctuated a bit since then, the number 22 has become the symbol of veteran suicide prevention. Buddy Check 22 is a national program aimed at preventing veteran suicides. The program does this by having veterans gather together or call each other on the 22nd of the month to check in and ensure everyone is doing okay. We support this program in the New River Valley by hosting social events on the 22nd of each month where veterans can gather together, have a good time, and build healthy relationships. The ultimate goal is that, in a time of need, a veteran will know that there is someone who understands his/her struggle and will call someone for help.
