The Floyd County Historical Society presents the "The Curtis Turner 100: Celebrating and Honoring NASCAR Legend and Floyd County Native" on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Floyd EcoVillage.
The Curtis Turner 100 event honors NASCAR legend and Floyd County native Curtis Turner (1924-1970) and his 100th birthday year. The event will feature live music, raffles, antique cars, exhibits, veteran racecar drivers and more!
Events include:
• Enjoy special guest speakers including Margaret Sue Turner Wright and a NASCAR representative.
• Curtis Turner's 1956 Ford convertible #26 race car from the Virginia Transportation Museum
• Showing of 2016 NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Video
• Live music by Bryan Wright
• Antique cars, exhibits and memorabilia
• Birthday cake and ice cream
• Launch of the the Mountain Spirit, Virginia's Moonshine Heritage Trail
• and more!
Additionally, the event serves as the official launch the Mountain Spirit: Virginia's Moonshine Heritage Trail! Curtis Turner's moonshine roots are deeply intertwined with our Appalachian heritage. This trail is a unique opportunity to explore the rich and often misunderstood history of moonshine in Virginia. From the stories of legendary moonshiners to the sites of historical stills, and even tastings of authentic moonshine from local distilleries – it’s an adventure you won’t want to miss!
Food trucks onsite include Community Pizza from 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM, Copper Hill Cakes & Goodies and Homestead Creamery.
Enter the raffle for Richmond Raceway four grandstand tickets and Fanground passes for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series race.
Admission is free.
