Historic Smithfield presents Lord Dunmore's War Living History Weekend on Friday, August 30, 2024 and Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day.
Event Schedule:
• 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM: Living History with The Independent Company
• 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM: House Open for Self-Guided Visits
• 10:30-11:30 AM: Indigenous Warfare in Virginia Talk at Museum Amphitheater
• 12:30-1:30 PM: Lord Dunmore's War Talk at Museum Amphitheater
• 12:30-2:30 PM: Documents of the 18th Century New River Country in Museum Store
Step back to 1774 and the last Colonial War before the American Revolution. The carefully researched Independent Company Living History Group will camp at the actual site where their historical counterparts mustered to give demonstrations of life in the Virginia militia during the conflict. A militia ration cooking demonstration will be given along with drilling and weapons firing.
On Saturday, join author Dr. Glenn Williams for his presentation on the war from the perspective of the Virginia militia along with your questions from 12:30-1:30 PM. Mark Ledford will present "Indigenous Warfare in Virginia during the 18th Century" along with your questions. Both talks will be held in the amphitheater.
Additionally, Smithfield will be open for self-guided visits and an interpreter to answer your questions. Documents of the 18th Century New River Country will be available with David Robbins inside the museum store.
Admission is free to the public.
Historic Smithfield is located at 1000 Smithfield Plantation Road in Blacksburg, VA.
