The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech presents the talk titled "What is Qawwali?" on Thursday, September 26, 2024 inside the Merryman Family Learning Studio (Moss Room 253).
Featuring Sonny K. Mehta, artistic director, Riyaaz Qawwali
Qawwali is a genre of music that has been used for centuries to spark religious devotion and bring listeners to a state of spiritual union with God. Traditional qawwalis are often sung in praise for religious teachers, saints, and scholars. Themes of love, intoxication, and longing are important in this genre.
Admission is free for the talk though registration is required.
