The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech presents the talk "Fado, The Song of Longing" on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 in the Merryman Family Learning Studio (Moss Room 253).
Designated by UNESCO as a tradition of Intangible Cultural Heritage, fado is a beloved musical genre with roots in Lisbon, Portugal. What are its historical origins and contemporary qualities?
Discover answers to these questions and more from an award-winning scholar of fado before experiencing the performance by a living legend of the style, Mariza. Featuring Ellen Gray, Ph.D., associate professor of music at Dickinson College.
