The National Weather Service Office in Blacksburg, VA presents their 2024 Open House on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Join us for our open house! Stop by any time between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM to learn about the National Weather Service and what we do on a daily basis. This is a great opportunity to meet our meteorologists, see the tools we use to create forecasts and warnings and visit outdoor exhibits from our partners.
Events include:
• Watch a Simulated Weather Balloon Launch
• Learn How We Issue Products and Warnings
• Hands-on Experiments
• Learn about Severe Weather and Hydrology
• Learn how the Radar Works
• Child-Friendly Weather Activities and Games
In addition there will be booths and displays in the parking lot from some of our partners including:
• Red Cross
• Virginia Department of Emergency Management Communications Trailer
• Virginia Tech Meteorology / Storm Chasers
Admission is free and all are welcome.
The event is rain or shine.
No pets allowed. Service dogs permitted.
