The School of Performing Arts and the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology at Virginia Tech kickoff the 2024 Fall New Music + Technology Festival on Tuesday, Ocotber 1, 2024 inside the Creativity and Innovation District at Virginia Tech.
The the New Music + Technology Festival showcases the ever-broadening field of music technology, focusing on new compositions and performance systems. Since its inception in 2021, the New Music + Technology Festival has presented multi- and interdisciplinary performances while furthering research at the nexus of music, theatre, cinema, dance, visual art, creative coding, computer science, neuroscience, molecular biology, robotics, and cyber security.
On the first night of the festival, Jennifer Bellor will present an evening of new acoustic music. Bellor, who teaches at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will play alongside Virginia Tech students as well as music faculty members John Irerra,violin; Annie Stevens Irerra, vibraphone; Alan Weinstein, cello; and Hutchins, saxophone.
Admission is free and no reservations are required for opening night.
The festival will run October 1st-4th at the Creativity and Innovation District living-learning community and in The Cube within the Moss Arts Center and will showcase innovations in the field of music technology and spatial audio, including a new international partnership founded by the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). All performances on this festival are completely free, but all located within The Cube require reservations.
The Creativity and Innovation District LLC Building is located at 185 Kent Street in Blacksburg, VA on the campus of Virginia Tech.
