Blacksburg Wine Lab presents an Austrian High Rollers Wine Tasting & Food Pairing on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The hills are alive with the sound of wine music! Austrian wine music, that is! Here at Blacksburg Wine Lab we are featuring flavors of Austria all month long. While the country is most commonly associated with cultural icons like the Austro-Hungarian Empire, The Sound of Music, Mozart operas, Viennese waltzes, and coffee houses serving sachertorte, this small Alpine state is currently in vogue for producing a lot of very, very fine wines!

Austria is punching far above its weight in the wine world, and we want to bring some of those tastes to your palates. Expertly crafted dry wines are being made from distinctly Austrian grapes like Grüner Veltliner (the dominant white grape), Blaufränkisch (the dominant red), Zweigelt, St. Laurent, and others. And of course they are crafting more recognizable wines like Pinto Noir and Chardonnay, but we always want to experiment with the most original expressions of each region, so let’s try some Austrian wines!

3) Wieninger Ried Ulm Nussberg Wiener Gemischter Satz - Special Field Blend from Vienna
4) Christina Netzl Carnuntum Zweigelt Haidacker - Single Vineyard Zweigelt Red
5) Jalits Eisenberg Diabas Reserve Blaufrankisch - Native Red Grape
6) Gut Oggau Josephine (Blaufränkisch & Roesler) - Blend of 2 Native Red Grapes
7) Steindorfer Scheurebe Trockbeerenauslese - White Dessert Wine

Tentative tapas food spread to pair with the wines:
• Two Austrian Cheeses
• Smoked Sausages
• Erdäpfelsalat (Austrian-Style Potato Salad)
• Käsespätzle (Mac & Cheese with Spatzle)
• Apfelstrudel Dessert

The cost is $100.00 per person for 2oz pour of seven wines and food spread featuring Austrian specialties. There is a $10.00 required deposit to save your seat.
