UPDATE: Due to Sunday's weather forecast the Annual Old Christmas event is cancelled.
The Wilderness Road Regional Museum presents their Annual Appalachian Old Christmas Celebration on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Enjoy traditional Old Christmas sweets and traditions. The event will include Appalachian Stack Cake, singing, some future telling, animal talking, burning of the Christmas greens, crowning of the new "King" or "Queen" of Mischief and much more.
Members of the Fincastle Living History group will be on site as well and will offer the gunfire salute to ring through the mountains to announce the birth of Christ.
If any of this doesn't make any sense to you then you might not be from Appalachia, but we would still love to have you join us and learn about the rich tradition of Appalachian Old Christmas.
This event is a free, family friendly event and donations are welcome.
This is mainly an outside event which will take place rain or shine.
The Wilderness Road Regional Museum is located at 5420 Wilderness Road in Newbern, VA.
