Description:
The Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech and other Virginia Tech presents The Faculty Nutshell Talks on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech.

Witness Virginia Tech faculty explain their groundbreaking research in a nutshell — each has just 90 seconds to entertain and wow the audience!

What’s shorter than a TED Talk and twice as fun? The Faculty Nutshell Talks! Please join us to witness Virginia Tech faculty explain their groundbreaking research in a nutshell.

Join more than a dozen innovative faculty members as they present to a lively public audience and a panel of discerning judges, including a 7th grader! It’s fast-paced, fun, and informative — a true showcase of Virginia Tech’s innovative work.

This event is free and open to the public and great for adults and school-aged kids and up.

With presentations on research from seven of Virginia Tech’s colleges, you'll learn about feeding the world, using math to do biology, animals moving in a changing world, building wooden skyscrapers, senses and storytelling, measuring the mind-body connection, security and privacy in augmented reality, what it means to follow a leader, living your best life, and so much more, all in just over an hour!

The stakes are high, as the top three presenters will earn $1,000 in professional development funding. An additional prize will go to the presenter whose video garners the most views online, earning them the coveted Audience Favorite award.

Brought to you by the Center for Communicating Science and funded by the Office of Research and Innovation and by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affair at Virginia Tech, the Faculty Nutshell Talks promise an evening of curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Mark your calendars, bring your friends, and join us for an unforgettable event!
