Description:
The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation continue their Market Jam at the Museum series featuring host band the Reed Tradition String Band on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Alexander Black House.
Market Jams at the Museum are back for the cold weather months! This jam will feature the “Reed Tradition String Band” with Russ Boyd on banjo, Bill Blevins and Chris Via on fiddle, and Matt Peyton on guitar. This session will honor the Reed Family of Giles County. Henry Reed captured many local fiddle tunes, and Alan Jabbour recorded his playing for the Archive of Folk Culture at the Library of Congress.
Henry’s son, Dean Reed, attended many of our Market Square Jams. He passed away this summer at age 95 and our old-time community misses his playing and singing very much.
The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation is proud to be a cold weather venue for the Market Square Jams. We've got plenty of room in our galleries for players and guests so come pick a tune or sit back and listen.
Admission is free and no registration is required.
Market Jams at the Museum will be held on the second Saturday from January through May.
The Alexander Black House & Cultural Center is located at 204 Draper Road in Blacksburg, VA.
