Description:
Blacksburg Young Professionals, The Blacksburg Partnership, and the Community Foundation of the New River Valley present "Take Your Seat at the Table: Energizing Young Professionals for Community Impact" on Tuesday February 25, 2025 at the German Club on the campus of Virginia Tech.
"Take Your Seat at the Table" is designed to connect young professionals with local nonprofits to share information about the nonprofits' work and how young professionals can get involved with their work.
Nonprofits in the New River Valley are in great need of volunteers, including diversified boards and planning committees that include younger demographics. Take Your Seat at the Table will educate young professionals (those early in their careers in their 20s and 30s) on how to utilize their passions and backgrounds to help address and understand community needs as volunteers.
Additionally, since the pandemic, there has been an increased need for board members and other volunteers for nonprofits. This need for volunteers, paired with the interest from young professionals, is how the idea for the event started.
The event will include networking tables based around specific focus areas within our community for young professionals to rotate and learn about the need and provide input on how nonprofits can welcome more young professionals as volunteers.
Nonprofit attendees will include representatives from:
• Community Housing Partners
• Floyd Center for the Arts
• Giles Animal Rescue
• Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley
• Live Work Eat Grow
• Lyric Theatre
• Montgomery County Friends of Animal Care & Control
• Montgomery Museum of Art & History
• Mountain View Humane
• New River Conservancy
• Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center
• Spikenard Farm and Sanctuary
Admission is free.
All attendees are welcomed to network over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Up to 100 attendees are expected to attend.
The mission of the Community Foundation of the New River Valley is to enrich our community by providing professional management services to donors for their charitable causes, awarding visionary grants and scholarships, and nurturing collaborations in our community.
We match our donors' unique interests, ideas and passions with charitable organizations making a positive impact in our region every day.
