Description:
The Wilderness Road Regional Museum presents the May Day / Beltane Celtic Heritage Celebration of Spring on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
Welcome spring and remember some of the early settlers of the valley! A May Pole Dance, bonfire, Bannock bread, and more will be shared in a family friendly evening to welcome spring and remember some of the early settlers of the valley that brought these traditions to the colonies.
The early settlers to the New River Valley brought a mixed culture to the region. Swiss, German, Welsh, West African, Scots Irish, Isle of Man along with many other influences blended along the Great Wagon Road.
Many of the fun aspects of our Appalachian Old Christmas show back up in the May Day Spring Celebration, a bonfire, predicting the future, determining a fool of the day with food like the king with the bean cake. We also hope to have a spring wreath making station as well.
Admission is free however donations are greatly appreciated.
This will be lawn event so bring a blanket or folding chair and join us.
