New River Valley Home Builders Association (NRVHBA) and the Build Smart Institute presents the CORE Fundamentals of Construction Class for starting on Monday, June 16, 2025 at the Giles County Technology Center in Pearisburg, VA.

The NRVHBA has partnered with Build Smart Institute to offer their CORE Fundamentals of Construction class this summer in the New River Valley —a hands-on, industry-recognized training program designed for individuals seeking to launch a career in construction. This collaboration is designed to bring quality training to the New River Valley and to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the construction industry.

The class will meet Monday-Friday from June 16th through July 2nd and then on July 7th and 8th from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.

The CORE Construction Class provides foundational skills essential for entry-level positions in the construction industry. The curriculum is based on the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) standards and includes:

What You Will Learn:
• Construction safety practices
• Construction math
• Introduction to hand and power tools
• Materials handling
• Reading and understanding construction drawings
• Employability and communication skills
• Core construction fundamentals

Who Should Enroll:
• High school seniors and recent graduates interested in construction careers.
• Adult learners and displaced workers seeking new opportunities.
• Apprenticeship participants and those looking to upskill in the trades.
• Residents of the New River Valley and surrounding counties.

The tuition is $1,900 per student.

Eligible students can access tuition support through the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Development Board, which may cover some or all of the course cost.

The NRVHBA has funding for two scholarships for this course.
