Description:
The Summer Arts Festival kicks off their Thursday Night Indoor Concerts with a concert titled "The Art of the Spiritual" performed by Jondra Harmon on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.

Jondra Harmon, mezzo-soprano, will present a recital on the origins, development, and proliferation of the American negro spiritual and art song. This program will feature works by black composers from the 20th and 21st centuries who used their voice to amplify and reflect on the cultural and political shifts of our American history.

Navigating a changing world from slavery, to emancipation, through the civil rights era, and to today, this music gives an in-depth view on the American Black experience over the decades. Come listen, learn, and enjoy.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Thursday Night Indoor Concerts are presented by Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg as part of the 2025 Summer Arts Festival.
