Description:
The Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE) presents the Annual John F. Hosner Distinguished Lecture titled "Ancient Forests and the Stories They Tell" on Thursday, February 12, 2026 in the Holtzman Alumni Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.

The John F. Hosner Distinguished Lecture honors the founding dean of the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech. This year’s lecture, "Ancient Forests and the Stories They Tell", features David W. Stahle, Distinguished Professor of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas.

Stahle is a world-renowned dendrochronologist whose research uses tree rings to uncover centuries of climate history, from ancient cypress swamps in North Carolina to droughts that shaped civilizations across the Americas. His work includes discovering the oldest known living trees in the eastern United States and advancing understanding of climate variability across continents.

Join us for an evening that connects science, history, and discovery, followed by a reception.

The event is free and open to the public. Dress is casual.

For accessibility accommodations, please contact Tara Nepper at tnepper@vt.edu or 540-231-5484.

The Holtzman Alumni Center is located at 901 Price's Fork Road in Blacksburg, VA on the campus of Virginia Tech.
