The Jessie Peterman Library presents the program "Stars, Stripes, and Steps: Dance in Colonial America" on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Dance was an integral part of social life in colonial America. A gentleman's education was incomplete without knowing how to dance. Even George Washington took lessons to help him advance. Dancing provided entertainment, helped people build friendships, and strengthened community ties.
In this presentation, you will have the opportunity to learn an easy dance just like they did in the 18th century! Renee Metcalf teaches lessons in English country dancing for the Floyd Historical Dancers.
The classes are open to all ages and experience.
The Jessie Peterman Library is located at 321 West Main Street in Floyd, VA.
