Description:
The Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech presents an Outdoor Concert with Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole on Friday, September 11, 2026 on the Patricia Buckley Moss Lawn.

As the last of summer lingers in the air, four-time Grammy nominee Cedric Watson with his band, Bijou Creole, leads a high-spirited celebration on the center’s lawn filled with lively accordion and fiddle tunes, soulful vocals, and irresistible dance rhythms. Together, they celebrate the rich musical traditions of southwest Louisiana while bringing their own contemporary style to the stage. Whether you're discovering Cajun and Zydeco music for the first time or you're already a fan, expect an evening that's both joyful and deeply rooted in Louisiana tradition.

A master fiddler, accordionist, and songwriter based in South Louisiana, Watson brings Cajun and Creole traditions to life, channeling centuries of African, Native American, French, and Spanish influence. With his band, Bijou Creole, he moves seamlessly from ancient contra dance melodies to modern Zydeco grooves, tossing in bluegrass fiddle tunes for good measure.

Rhythmic, soulful, and irresistibly danceable, this open-air concert invites you to gather, move, and start the season in full swing.

One of the brightest young talents to emerge in Cajun, Creole and Zydeco (Louisiana French) music over the last decade, Cedric Watson is a four-time Grammy-nominated fiddler, singer, accordionist and songwriter with seemingly unlimited potential.

Originally from San Felipe, TX (population 868), Cedric made his first appearance at the age of 19 at the Zydeco Jam at The Big Easy in Houston, TX. Just two years later, he moved to south Louisiana, quickly immersing himself in French music and language. Over the next several years, Cedric performed French music in 17 countries and on 7 full-length albums with various groups, including the Pine Leaf Boys, Corey Ledet, Les Amis Creole with Ed Poullard and J.B. Adams, and with his own group, Bijou Creole.
