The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts presents Cuban Pianist Marita Rodriguez in concert on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Squires Recital Salon on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Cuban pianist Marita Rodriguez plays music by Cuban composers Juan Piñera, Javier Zalba, Gisela Hernandez, and Ernesto Lecuona as well as Schumann, Beethoven, and Granados.

An expert in Cuban music, Rodriguez will share her knowledge and musicianship with the Blacksburg community.

Solo Pianist of the National Concert Music Center (CNMC), Associate Professor of the Piano Department at the University of the Arts (ISA), Master of Music, director and member of the Duo D'Accord, together with clarinetist Vincent Monterrey. She is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and she also is the director of the yearly International Music Festival “Fiesta de los Clarinetes.”

Graduated with honors from the University of the Arts under Cuban professor and pianist Nancy Casanova, later completing Master studies with professors Sandor Falvai and R. Roman of the Liszt Academy in Hungary, and at the Prague Academy, Czech Republic with Professor Ivan Klansky. She also obtained her Chamber Music Diploma with Radosvet Boyadjiev, and an Advanced Piano course with Professor Ninowska Fernandez Brito, as well as Postgraduate studies on German Lieders with Christopher Jung and Piotr Oczkowski.

She has been awarded the “Amadeo Roldan” Diploma by the UNEAC for her outstanding merits and contributions to the development of music in Cuba, the Pedagogical Merit Diploma awarded by the ISA, as well as the Medal for Cuban Education.

She has toured successfully in different countries such as USA, Holland, Canada, Mexico, Czech Republic, Spain, Hungary, among others; as well as several national tours.

She has a renowned career as a soloist, having performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Camerata Romeu; in addition to touring the most important concert halls of the island as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
