Description:
The LINC Letter presents Beans and Banjos with The Java Brothers and Fort Vause inside the Dr. George R. Smith Community Center located within the Meadowbrook Center in Shawsville, VA.

The Java Brothers return to Beans and Banjos in April after a too-long absence. Fort Vause will open the show with bluegrass and bluegrass flavored blues, ballads, gospel, novelty and show tunes.

The Java Brothers bluegrass band was born out of Radford’s Monday Night Fiddle & Banjo Jam. They are progressive, but pretty much only to the extent that they'll play new songs as hard driving bluegrass with some rock 'n roll vibes.

They love Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, The Seldom Scene, JD Crowe, Tony Rice, Jimmy Martin, Sam Bush, the Country Gentlemen, the Beatles, the Stones, and all the greats. The Java Brothers have a fun live show that mixes standard Bluegrass and Newgrass with fiery original tunes.

The Java Brothers have become Radford’s house band however they’ve played dances, festivals, brew pubs, and church services all over Southwest Virginia.

Fort Vause is a collection of musicians based in Montgomery County, VA that performs in a variety of configurations. Depending on how they divide up, the band can play bluegrass, old time, gospel, traditional country and even what some folks call folk music.

Fort Vause features George Smith, who played banjo in the Appalachian Music Masters concert series and on recordings with Jack Hinshelwood and Buddy Pendleton; Jeff Wilcke, a doctor of veterinary medicine and rhythm guitar who also plays mandolin; and the newest member of the band, virtuoso guitarist Steven Paul, who came to Fort Vause from a Gypsy jazz band and is front man for the electric alt-country band Electric Road. Tim Thornton, who slipped onto a Black Twig Pickers recording once, plays bass and sometimes other things.
