Description:
The Virginia Tech Union presents "For the Record" with Nathan Chapman on Friday, September 13, 2019 in Colonial Hall within the Squires Student Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Nathan Chapman, producer for artists such as Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, will speak about music production. His talk will be followed by a moderated Q&A as well as an audience Q&A.

Nathan Chapman’s early journey included works with a little known artist named Taylor Swift. He went on to produce five of Swift’s albums. Chapman’s work with Swift has earned him awards from the Academy of Country Music Association, American Music Awards, and the GRAMMYs, among other music award associations.

Chapman won his 3rd GRAMMY award for Album of the Year for his production work on Swift’s album, “1989.” He has also produced various country artists and bands such as Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Shania Twain, Dan + Shay, Kylie Minogue, Martina McBride, The Band Perry and Rascal Flatts, among others. Chapman has produced 17 number one hits.

Chapman has also written popular songs such as Darius Rucker’s number one hit “Homegrown Honey.” He works with Warner Chappell Music Publishing as a songwriter and he also a musician in his own right playing guitar, banjo and mandolin. He credits his love of songwriting and songwriters as the main ingredient that drives his production work. That fondness for the craft shows in his over 30 major label cuts as a songwriter.

Admission is free and open to the public.

In addition to speaking, Nathan Chapman will be doing a music production workshop beforehand in Squires' Brush Mountain Room A. The workshop has limited space and it will be first come first serve only.
