The Virginia Center for Civil War Studies presents Researching Civil War African Americans Workshop on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

Interested in learning more about how to research African American experiences during the Civil War? Whether you are studying your own ancestors, or working on a research project, or just curious, this workshop is for you. Our two expert presenters will provide tips on the best methods and resources (many of them online), share their own research experiences, and answer your questions.

Dr. Caroline Wood Newhall is the postdoctoral fellow at Virginia Tech’s Virginia Center for Civil War Studies, and an expert in Black POWs who were captured by the Confederacy. Dr. Kerri Moseley-Hobbs is a historian who wrote about her own enslaved ancestors in the book "More than a Fraction".

Admission is free and all are welcome though advance registration is required.
