The Giles County Historical Society Museum presents the 2nd Annual George Pearis Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Heritage Days on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Schedule of Events:
• 11:00 AM: Wreath Laying at George Pearis Cemetery (short walk required)
• 12:00 PM: Simple Fixins' Food Truck on site
• 1:00 PM: Honor Guard Salute and Raising of the Colors
• 1:00-4:00 PM: Benefit Appraisals from Valley Auctions
• 1:30-3:30 PM: Children's Program
• 1:30-3:30 PM: Captain George Pearis Portrayal
• 4:00 PM: Giles Community Singers Concert
• 5:30 PM: Taps and Retire the Colors
This event highlights Revolutionary War Captain George Pearis, the namesake of Pearisburg, and the history of Pearisburg, Virginia with a variety of fun activities for all ages including a children's program, the Simple Fixins' Food Truck, Giles Community Singers concert titled "This is the Dream", living history, Mr. Sam Winkler portraying Captain George Pearis, Benefit Appraisals from Valley Auctions for a $10.00 donation per appraised item (limit of two items per person) and more.
George Pearis resided and was in command of the Pearis Fort on the New River providing refuge for settlers. Captain Pearis joined Major Joseph Cloyd in suppressing Tory uprisings in 1780 at Shallow Ford along the Yadkin River in North Carolina and was severely injured in the battle.
Admission is free though donations are gratefully accepted.
