Biography:
The chapter of AARP was organized in Blacksburg in 1975 by a group of citizens who called themselves the Liaisurees. Within a year, the group affiliated with AARP and was chartered as chapter #2613. AARP Blacksburg Chapter is devoted to serve the larger community in the New River Valley. The chapter's motto is "to serve, not to be served."
Blacksburg AARP welcomes members who are age 50 or more into regular membership and interested persons age 49 or younger as affiliate members. Current membership is composed of retirees from local and national agencies, U. S. Military, companies and industries, and colleges and universities. Some members remain employed in a variety of enterprises, including those who work for the town of Blacksburg. Membership in March 2016 was 306 composed of 196 households
