The 2022 Summer Arts Festival continues their Summer Classic Movies with "The Godfather" at The Lyric Theatre on Saturday, July 30, 2022 and Wednesday, August 3, 2022 starting at 3:00 PM both days.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, this mob drama, based on Mario Puzo's novel of the same name, focuses on the powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). When the don's youngest son, Michael (Al Pacino), reluctantly joins the Mafia, he becomes involved in the inevitable cycle of violence and betrayal. Although Michael tries to maintain a normal relationship with his wife, Kay (Diane Keaton), he is drawn deeper into the family business.

"The Godfather" is a 1972 crime drama rated R and starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and James Caan.

The Summer Arts Festival is presented through the joint efforts of Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts and the Town of Blacksburg. The Summer Arts Festival includes Friday night concerts on Henderson Lawn, classic films in the historic Lyric Theatre, an art exhibit in the Perspective Gallery in the Squires Student Center, and numerous special events such as Summer Solstice Fest, the Fourth of July celebration, and Steppin' Out street festival. New this year will be a series of Thursday night concerts at the Presbyterian Church including a performance of Mozart's Requiem, a production of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder in Theatre 101 featuring actors from Virginia Tech and the community, and children's activities in the new campus Living Learning Community building. All events of the Summer Arts Festival are free and open to the public.
