Description:
The Ati: Wa:oki Indigenous Community Center and Native at Virginia Tech presents their 7th Annual Spring Pow Wow on Saturday, April 20, 2024 on the Graduate Life Center Lawn.

This year's powwow will include Native American dance traditions, drumming, and singing. Guests can enjoy cultural education, Native music and dance traditions, craft vendors and food. The Grand Entry will begin promptly at noon. There will be many talented vendors and artisans present.

The powwow will include two head dancers, an arena director, drum groups from both northern and southern traditions, and a master of ceremonies. The Head Man for the powwow is Louis Campbell. The Head Lady is Modesta Mutu. Master of Ceremonies is Rufus Elliott and the Arena Director is Keith Colston. The Northern Drum is Warpaint and the Southern Drum is Southern Eagle.

Powwow honors traditional Native gatherings by incorporating Indigenous values such as respect, tradition, and generosity, offering an opportunity for the university community to experience Indigenous culture firsthand.

A family friendly event, it is free and open to the entire campus community as well as the general public.

Points of etiquette to keep in mind:
• Listen to the master of ceremonies. He will announce who is to dance, and when. He will also let you know when you can take photos/record and when you cannot and which dances include an invitation to the general public to join.

• If at any time you are uncertain of procedure or etiquette, please check with the master of ceremonies, arena director, or head singer. They will be glad to help you with your questions.

• Animals are not typically allowed unless they are service animals.

This is a rain or shine event. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held inside in Commonwealth Ballroom A within the Squires Student Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.

The Graduate Life Center Lawn is located at 290 College Avenue in Blacksburg, VA on the campus of Virginia Tech.
