Claytor Lake State Park presents the 2026 National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Explore our trails and learn something new with some special programming on National Trails Day!

On the first Saturday of June, Virginia State Parks celebrates National Trails Day®, an annual event sponsored by the American Hiking Society encouraging outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to explore hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Virginia’s 44 state parks offer guided hikes, trail maintenance workshops and volunteer opportunities to highlight trail stewardship and the importance of preserving trails for future generations.

Event Schedule:
• 2:00 PM - Trick Your Stick at the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Dogwood Campground:
What is the perfect sized walking stick for you? Bring your own stick or take one of ours and use crafting supplies provided by the rangers to create your own uniquely designed item.

• 4:00 PM - Claytor Lake Overlook Hike at the Meeting Facility:
Join our rangers as we hike to the Claytor Lake Overlook for beautiful views of rolling hills and the lake. Along the way, we will stop to discuss the flora and fauna around us. The hike is about about two miles long so good walking shoes and water are recommended.

• 7:00 PM - Bear Aware at the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Dogwood Campground:
What should you do if you encounter a bear on the trail? Learn some tricks on how to coexist with one of our largest animals in the landscape.

There are also self-guided opportunities available.

The event is free, but the $7.00 state park parking fee per vehicle still applies.

Claytor Lake State Park is located at 6620 Ben H. Bolen Drive in Dublin, VA.
