Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley presents "Once Upon a Race: A Fantastical 5K", Family Fun Run and Costume Contest on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Bisset Park in Radford, VA.

Literacy NRV is thrilled to bring back "Once Upon a Race: A Fantastical 5K", the magical next chapter of our beloved storybook-themed fundraiser! Formerly known as Potter in the Park, this newly imagined race invites you to journey through five enchanting realms inspired by some of your favorite fantasy worlds including:

• Wizarding World
• Fairy Tale Forest
• Yellow Brick Road
• Middle-Earth Meadow
• Camp Half-Blood

As our community grows, so does our commitment to making everyone feel welcome. By expanding the magic beyond a single story, we’re creating space for all readers and dreamers to see themselves in the adventure. We can’t wait for you to race through fairy tale forests, wizarding worlds, and more, all in support of adult literacy in the New River Valley!

Registration is $35.00 for an individual or a $100.00 for a team of four and $10.00 for a magical creature (pup). Late registration on August 28th or on race day on August 29th is $40.00 for an individual, $140.00 for a team of four and $10.00 for a magical creature.

Costumes are encouraged! Whether you come as a fairy tale favorite, a magical creature, a wizard, a woodland character, or something completely from your own imagination, we want to see your creativity on race day!

Your registration helps support Literacy NRV and our work helping adults across the New River Valley build literacy skills and write brighter next chapters. 100% of the proceeds will be donated.
